I am a student at Southern Illinois University Edwardsville studying Photography and Philosophy. This website is for a project based on the idea that photographs hold pieces of our personal identity. I have been collecting old color slides from estate sales and antique shops. Philosophers like John Locke say that our memory is what makes up our personal identity. In turn, I would say that since a photograph can hold a memory, that makes it part of my identity. My question is whether I should be keeping these photographs to preserve other's identities or if I should not because they are essentially someone else. With this project I hope that by posting these images, I will be able to find some of the original owners, and return their memories to them.
